[Colombia 2013] 2nd of April – Instituto Pedro Justo Berrio

On May 7, 2013 by Askold

The 2nd of April was an exciting day for us. In fact, we had proposed to aviation engineering students from the university to join us following our presentation at the Bolivariana University. And a group of students assured us they would come. And so they did! We met them at the entrance of the “Instituto Pedro Justo Berrio”, where we had been invited to. We had been asked to prepare for two classes. The first one would be in the morning, the kids being around 10 years old. The second around noon, to teenagers about to leave the school.

For the first class, we did our classical programme  – how does an airplane fly?/how does a Helicopter Fly?/What does the job of a pilot look like? – with associated experiments. We had fun in flying our little airplane indoor, in the indoor basketball court. Our guests from the University joined the kids as active listeners in order to have a concrete impression of what our projects look like.

Then, at noon, they changed their role from listeners to lecturers. We asked our new friends to share with the teenagers their experience about university, and some thoughts about aviation engineering. What was important in this second part of the day, was to broaden the horizon of our public to help them choose their further studies. And it was a great to have first hand testimonies from young Colombian students about how they made their choice.

This day had a particular importance for us, as it was not only about teaching kids about airplanes and make them believe in their dreams but also about trying to convince students from the Bolivariana University to continue the fly beyond dreams project locally in Colombia.

So… we will see what happens next! 😉

In the mean time, have a look at the pictures!
